The event is scheduled to take place from 2 – 5 June 2023 at The Venetian, Las Vegas, Nevada. The Department of Trade Industry and Competition (the dtic), offers South African manufacturing companies the opportunity to showcase their products at various international trade fairs. In this instance, the scheme which provides funding for successful applicants, is called the Sector Specific Assistance Scheme (SSAS), and Emerging Exporters are encouraged to participate under this scheme. Funding must however be motivated for by JCSA. Companies who meet the criteria, set out by the dtic, may apply for funding, and successful applicants will enjoy the following benefits – upfront payment of exhibition costs, freight forwarding, one economy class return flight ticket, accommodation (breakfast and dinner included). JCSA will act as project coordinator for this event. JCSA facilitates the application process and provides relevant information in order to make it possible for manufacturers to exhibit at these international exhibitions. As this is motivated by JCSA, only JCSA paid up members will be allowed to apply. If you would like to join the Jewellery Council of South Africa, please contact Kirsten Lenton on 011 484 5528 / 061 078 2381 or email kirstenl@jewellery.org.za Qualifying Criteria To qualify for support, an emerging exporter should meet the following requirements: Be a registered legal entity in South Africa in terms of the Companies Act of 2008 (as amended); the Close Corporations Act, 1984 (as amended) or the Co- Operatives Act, 2005 (as amended); For a business to qualify, it must be owned by (one of the below criteria): a Black South African citizen with at least fifty-one percent (51%) ownership and managed by Black person(s) or Woman owned or Disabled persons and have a turnover of less than twenty-five million rand (R25 million); or a Small Medium and Micro-Sized Enterprise with a turnover of less than twenty-five million rand (R25 million); and must further meet all the below criteria: Comply with the requirements of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) legislation and must in this regard achieve at least level four (4) contributor status in terms of the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice (refer to http://bee.thedti.gov.za); Have traded locally for at least twelve (12) months Have a 12-month financial statements prepared by an accountant/auditor registered with a professional accounting body. (bank statements not allowed). How to apply The first 10 correct and complete applications will be considered. The deadline for application is on the 20 January 2023. Please note that SSAS funding guidelines and application forms have changed. Read through the SSAS Guidelines before completing your application form. Emerging exporters who have not participated under the dtic EMIA individual funding scheme, are allowed to apply for 4 dtic SSAS funded exhibitions per year and to a maximum of 12 in the company’s lifetime (as per SSAS Guidelines). The dtic has dismissed all previous utilized SSAS funding and companies will have 12 SSAS funded opportunities available. Use the Checklist as guide to compile your application. To apply, complete the SSAS Application Form. An application form must be 100 % complete. If you are uncertain please call us for assistance. An incomplete or late application form will not be considered. Complete and sign the JCSA Agreement form and SSAS Declaration between the Project Coordinator and individual applicant. According to new rules from the dti, the submission of a BBBEE certificate OR an affidavit of exemption thereof is required from 1 April 2016. Use the BBBEE information sheet to choose the correct affidavit form for Micro Enterprise or Small and Medium Enterprises. Passport copies must be certified. Important information regarding financials: Only annual financial statements compiled by an accountant/auditor who is registered with a recognized accountant body e.g. SAIPA, SAICA, SAIBA etc. will be accepted. Details of the Accountant/Auditor’s registered accounting body and registration number to appear on the financial statements. If the statement doesn’t mention the registered body and number, a letter confirming the details must be provided by the Accountant/Auditor. Financial Statements must be signed by the Accountant/Auditor and Director/s. Financials older than 18 months will not be accepted. If Financials are older than 12 months, a signed letter from the accountant/auditor must be submitted confirming the revenue, total assets (excluding land, property and machinery) and number of employees. Complete the accurate turnover/revenue and assets (Total Assets excluding land , property, machinery) values from the Financial Statements on page 2 of the application form. Indicate which exhibitions and previous dtic funding schemes your company has utilized in the past on the Previous dtic Funding form. To be considered for International Exhibitions, all applicants’ marketing material must be of good standard and quality: High resolution photographs on the brochures and international contact details: +27 (contact numbers) to appear on brochures and business cards. All applicants must have a WORKING website. In view of the budget, only 10 companies can be accepted on the pavilion. Please note that there is a strict deadline date for submitting your application and supporting documents. If your application is successful, you will be responsible for the application, payment and issue of your own VISA. Although accommodation (bed, breakfast and dinner) will be covered by the dtic, you may be required to put down a credit card as a hold for incidental charges you might incur during your stay. Please note that you will have to have approximately R2000 on your credit card for the holding fee on your room. If you haven’t made use of extras on your room such as room service, snacks and drinks from the room’s mini bar, laundry etc. the full amount will be reversed to your credit card after you check out on the last day. Please note that the reversal of the credit card holding may take several days. Please note that all exhibitors will be required to personally cover all costs regarding Covid-19 testing as per hosting country regulations for travel, entry, and exit, and ALL additional costs relating to Covid-19 including health-related expenses. NON PARTICIPATION: Please take note of section C on the SSAS application form: The Individual Participant will be liable for the costs incurred for non participation at the event. JCSA relies on the information given by the applicant to make corrections where necessary and to compile the application on behalf of the applicant. JCSA will not be held liable for any legal or civil consequences should the information given by the applicant be incorrect/incomplete or fraudulent.
