Calling all jewellery designers…
South Africa’s premier annual platinum jewellery design and manufacturing competition, PlatAfrica, is open for entries.
The theme of the 23rd edition of PlatAfrica is #Hope, calling for designs that demonstrate trust in artisanry in an uncertain world.
Hosted annually by Anglo American Platinum, Metal Concentrators and Platinum Guild International (PGI) India, PlatAfrica is open to students, apprentices and professional jewellers in South Africa. It provides both students and professionals the opportunity to work with precious platinum metal and provides detailed feedback, enabling the development of jewellery design and manufacturing skills.
This year’s theme is inspired by the world’s Covid-19 experience and the embrace of sustainability and meaningful luxury.
Designers are required to interpret the #Hope theme through specific design hooks that speak to new perspectives, transitions and interconnectedness.
Judges will be looking for creativity, originality and interpretation of the #Hope theme as well as technical excellence.
The competition features three prize categories:
- professionals,
- apprentices and students, and
- the People’s Choice award (where the public has the opportunity to vote for their favourite jewellery piece).

Please fill in Annex 1 – Metal Request & Confirmation of Intention to Participate, and email it to juno@junocorp.co.za
You will need to include a copy of your metal licence, details on who will be entering and how much metal you are requesting, as well as confirmation on delivery address and the contact person who will take responsibility for the metal.
Note: When submitting your final piece(s), each entrant will need to complete Annex 2 – Entry Form in Word and supply both a hard copy with the piece as well as email an electronic copy to juno@junocorp.co.za.
Note: Metal requests need to be submitted as soon as possible.
Final design pieces will need to be submitted by end July 2022.
