Becoming a member means committing to high standards of professionalism, ethics, and quality. Eligibility depends on your category across the jewellery value chain.

Membership categories & eligibility

Requirements vary by Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Retail members; all applicants commit to ethical conduct and compliance.

Eligibility

Membership categories

Each division focuses on its primary business activity. Turnover, references, and compliance determine eligibility.

Manufacturing Members - JMASA

  • Turnover: >60% from manufacturing jewellery.
  • Two independent supplier references.
  • Reasonable quality of jewellery manufactured.
  • Highest jewellery manufacturing qualification (owner or senior employee) or equivalent reference.
  • Valid Jeweller's Permit (SADPMR) or other applicable permits.
  • May be referred to Regional/Executive Committee; meeting may be required.

Wholesale Members - JAWDA

  • Turnover: >60% from wholesale/import of jewellery or supplying the industry.
  • Two independent supplier references.
  • Proof of registration and compliance (CIPC or similar).
  • Reasonable product offering.
  • Two recommendations from JCSA members in good standing.
  • Regional/Executive Committee review; meeting may be required.

Retail Members

  • Turnover: >60% from retail of jewellery.
  • Two independent supplier references.
  • Reasonable product offering.
  • Presentable store appearance in context of location.
  • Two recommendations from JCSA members in good standing.
  • Regional/National review; store inspection may be required.

  • Company logo, letterhead, or business card.
  • Copy of ID (owner / MD / CEO).
  • Proof of payment of application fee (R1 150, non-refundable).
  • Copy of Jeweller's Permit (if applicable).
  • Jewellery-related qualifications (if applicable).
  • Second-hand Dealers Licence (if applicable).
  • Any additional documentation requested.

Application process (summary)

  1. Submit application with supporting documents.
  2. Pay application fee (R1 150, non-refundable).
  3. References verified; regional committee review.
  4. Inspection / meeting may be requested to confirm eligibility.
  5. Executive Committee makes final decision.
  6. Outcome communicated; invoice issued if successful.

Discipline & compliance

  • All members are bound by the JCSA Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Suspensions or expulsions may occur due to non-payment, misconduct, or arbitration rulings.
  • Decisions are made by the JCSA Executive Committee after due process.

Resignation

  • Membership renews annually unless a formal written resignation is received.
  • All outstanding membership fees must be settled before resignation is processed.
